Your accounting problem changes every time you grow.

The bookkeeper who was fine at $2M can't handle a second entity. The firm that got you through a Series A doesn't know the reporting cadence a sponsor expects. So you switch again.

01

You've outgrown your bookkeeper.

Volume went up. The close didn't get faster.

02

You can't justify a full-time CFO.

But you do need someone who can sit in front of your board.

03

Switching costs you a quarter.

New team, new chart of accounts, all your context rebuilt from scratch.

Most firms are built for one stage of your life. Numera is built for all of them.

Nobody wants more accounting. They want to stop thinking about it.

What we do

Outsourced accounting, scoped to where you are

Most companies need all three of these eventually. Very few need all three at once. We scope to the stage you're at and add the rest when it's warranted.

Monthly close and compliance

Books that close on time

The monthly work, done to a standard that holds up when someone external looks at it.

  • Monthly close on a fixed calendar
  • Bank, credit card and intercompany reconciliations
  • P&L, balance sheet and cash flow statements
  • Documentation trail an auditor can follow
Fractional CFO advisory

Someone to argue with about the numbers

Fractional CFO and controller support, for the decisions that don't have an obvious answer.

  • Cash flow forecasting and runway modelling
  • Board and investor reporting packs
  • Budget vs. actual, with the variance explained
  • Pricing, hiring and spend decisions, pressure-tested
Multi-entity and revenue recognition

The complicated stuff

Second entities, subscription revenue, inventory. The work that usually breaks a small firm.

  • Multi-entity accounting and consolidations
  • Revenue recognition for SaaS and subscriptions
  • Inventory and cost accounting
  • Migrations and tech stack integration

Why it works

What you get with Numera

Five things most accounting firms can't offer — because most firms are built for one kind of client at one stage.

01

You don't start over when you grow.

Bookkeeping, controller work, CFO advisory — same relationship.

Clients stay with Numera six years on average and spend more with us each year — net revenue retention is 103%. People don't renew that long with a firm they've outgrown.

02

The person who knows your problem already works here.

International tax, public sector, PE-backed reporting.

Numera brings together 10+ specialist practices, each with its own depth. You get routed to the people who have done your situation before instead of a generalist reading up on it.

03

Multi-entity and rev rec aren't special projects.

Consolidations, subscriptions, holding structures.

Multi-entity consolidations and SaaS revenue recognition are standing work across our client base, not something we staff up for when it lands.

04

Someone who has seen your quarter before.

Leadership out of Big Four firms and PE-backed environments.

Our senior team came out of Big Four firms and PE-backed companies. They know what a sponsor asks for in month two, and what an auditor will push on.

05

Year-end doesn't depend on us hiring.

500+ people across four countries.

Delivery teams in the US, Canada, India and the Philippines. When diligence lands or the close gets heavy, the capacity already exists.

Who we work with

Three kinds of company.

One team behind all of them.

Startups

Pre-seed through Series B

Clean books, a cap table that reconciles, and financials that survive a data room.

Founders usually come to us before a raise and stay long after it. The team that closes your month is the team that answers the diligence questions.

Small & mid-size businesses

$500K to $50M in revenue

You've outgrown a bookkeeper and you're not ready to hire a CFO. This is the gap we were built for.

Accountant, tax advisor and strategic finance partner in one engagement — scoped to what you need this year, not what you might need in five.

PE-backed & portfolio companies

For sponsors and their portfolio

Finance function buildout, reporting standardization, QoE support, and the operational accounting behind a value creation plan.

We know the cadence and the scrutiny. Reporting packs land on the sponsor's calendar, not ours.

Getting started

What the first ninety days look like

No two handovers are identical. This is the shape of most of them.

01

We look at what you actually have

Your chart of accounts, your systems, your last three closes. We tell you what's clean, what isn't, and what it will take to fix. If the answer is that you don't need us yet, we say that.

02

We rebuild the parts that need rebuilding

Chart of accounts, approval chains, close calendar, reporting formats. Set up once, so the structure still works after your next entity or your next funding round.

Then it becomes routine

Monthly close on a fixed date, reports that land before you ask for them, and a named team that already knows your business when something unusual comes up.

In their words

What clients say when we're not in the room

These clients work with myStartUpCFO, a Numera company. Their words, unedited.

Fractional CFO · 13 entities
“As the owner of 13 small businesses and a CFO myself, I constantly need clean books, organized support, and guidance during times of crisis. myStartUpCFO has been a reliable partner—serving as our internal controller and bookkeeper across all my entities. Their communication is excellent and the team is super committed, often going above and beyond—even working late nights—to meet the demands of a startup. As a fractional CFO myself, I see them as a true extension of my team. I always recommend them to our clients!”
Insurance · Trust accounts, 50-state compliance
“Accounting was one of the first gaps we needed to plug when we launched — and not just any bookkeeping, but someone who could handle the complexity of an insurance business. That's where myStartUpCFO came in. Our reporting needs aren't standard SaaS, and they never forced us into a template. They understood our trust accounts, state-by-state compliance, and built systems around how we operate. That level of flexibility is rare. If you're running a business that doesn't fit neatly in a box, you need a finance partner that adapts with you. For us, that's been myStartUpCFO.”
Early-stage · Brought in at funding
“I've worked with myStartUpCFO for a while now, and they've become a trusted extension of how I build financial operations from the ground up. At FoodSystem6, we brought them in as soon as we received funding. For small teams, it's hard to build internal checks and balances — but with myStartUpCFO handling reconciliations and reporting, we've been able to stay lean without compromising financial integrity. Whether you need basic bookkeeping or CFO-level insight, they scale with you. I wouldn't run an early-stage company without myStartUpCFO.”

Questions we get

Outsourced accounting, answered.

What do outsourced accounting services actually include?

At minimum: transaction processing, reconciliations, monthly close and financial statements. Most of our clients also take some combination of cash flow reporting, board packs, tax coordination and CFO-level advice. You pick the scope. It changes as you grow.

How is this different from hiring a bookkeeper?

A bookkeeper records transactions. We close the books, produce statements, handle compliance, and tell you what the numbers mean. The practical difference shows up when something non-routine happens — a second entity, an audit request, a diligence list — and there's already someone who has done it before.

When should we make the switch?

The usual triggers: you've raised or are about to, you've added an entity, the close keeps slipping, or a founder is still doing the books at 11pm. Earlier is cheaper. Cleaning up two years of records costs more than keeping them clean would have.

Why Numera and not another firm?

Because of what happens in year three. Most firms serve one stage well and then you have to leave. Numera brings together 10+ specialist practices, so the tax specialist, the multi-entity expert and the fractional CFO are already inside. Our clients stay six years on average and spend more with us each year.

What does it cost?

It depends on transaction volume, number of entities and how much advisory work you want. Engagements are monthly and fixed, not hourly, so the invoice doesn't move when the month gets busy. We'll give you a number after one call and a look at your books.

Do you work with early-stage startups?

Yes — pre-seed onward. Startups are one of our three main segments, alongside small and mid-size businesses and PE-backed companies. Founders usually come to us before a raise, because a data room is a bad place to discover your books don't reconcile.

Who actually does the work?

A named team, not a queue. Numera has 500+ accountants and advisors across the US, Canada, India and the Philippines, and senior leadership out of Big Four firms and PE-backed companies. You'll know who closes your month and who to call when something's wrong.

At Numera, we're on a mission to democratize access to world-class accounting and finance leadership, reducing the risks of starting and growing a business.
